Helping science make sense, for everyonE
Liminal is a science communication collective that cuts through the noise with sensemaking.
Our approach to science communication is deeply personal, politically engaged, and massively multidisciplinary.
OUR WORK
Our most urgent challenges – pandemics, climate change, artificial intelligence – are dire threats to the health and well-being of our societies and ecosystems. These problems cannot be solved without science, but they cannot be solved by science alone.
When faced with such problems, we rely not just on our heads but also our hearts, our guts, and each other to make sense of what is truly happening and what to do about it – this is the essence of sensemaking.
At Liminal, we believe that science has a crucial role to play in sensemaking, and that communicating science beyond academic circles is essential work. We work with scientists who want their science to matter, but feel alone and adrift in large volumes of low-value advice about how to do that. Through coaching, training, and collaborations, we make science communication make sense to scientists, to help science make sense for everyone
OUR TEAM
Liminal is a collective of science communicators. We are scientists, journalists, educators, artists, performers, and social scientists, and we come together in fluid, project-based teams. Collectively, we have decades of experience in designing and delivering transformative experiences, and we intimately understand the work, pressures, and incentive structures of researchers.
